Leading Spanish Academy Now Open To Children:
Children, teenagers to benefit from renowned language
program
August
30, 2005, Washington, DC —Spanish Black Belt
has again taken the lead in Spanish-language instruction
in greater Washington, DC. Faculty and administration
have joined forces to develop and implement a curriculum
making the company’s renowned program accessible
to younger students.
Director
of Student Services, Nicolás Canales, was
enthusiastic about the new venture. “We have
been working towards this goal from the beginning,”
he said, adding that “when taught properly,
children absorb knowledge like sponges, and their
enthusiasm is contagious. This makes working with
youngsters one of the most rewarding experiences
a teacher can have.”
The
conventional wisdom is that the younger a person
is, the easier it is for them to learn a second
language. Spanish Black Belt has succeeded in making
language acquisition easy and enjoyable for adults.
Now the company’s tutors are ready to bring
their expertise to the younger age groups.
Tutor
Constantino Díaz-Durán notes that
“Once children learn something, they seem
to retain that knowledge rather easily, but it is
not always easy to get to that point. Children require
more attention than adults, and at the same time
they give you less attention. First-hand experience
-- caring for nieces and nephews -- has taught me
how to better communicate with kids, and how to
get their learning gears going. Their zeal energizes
you, and you find yourself looking forward to every
class.”
Tutor
Inma Iglesias agrees, saying that “Teaching
kids has made me even more enthusiastic about my
adult classes.” Iglesias also helped develop
the curriculum, which is tailored to specific ages.
“Teaching a 6 year old is very different from
teaching a 14 year old,” she noted. “We
strive to address the diverse interests that children
of different ages have, as well as each particular
student’s needs.”
Spanish
Black Belt offers classes for students who are not
taking any other Spanish language instruction, as
well as complementary tutoring for those who are
taking classes at school.
